Johnsonite Replay® Multi-Functional and Sports Rubber Sheet and Tile
Johnsonite Rubber - Sports Multi-Function Flooring
Located in Canton, Ohio, Timken High School offers a unique instructional approach to education by providing its 1,300 students the opportunity to focus their academic careers within arts, services or technology.
Wanting to increase safety without giving up aesthetics, Timken was looking for a long-life flooring that would also be easy to maintain. Tarkett’s rubber flooring and accessories were identified as the answer to the issues that the school was facing. Motter and Meadows Architects chose Tarkett flooring based on the durability rubber flooring brings to any space. Its acoustic properties also help reduce noise, which is essential for any learning environment.
“We wanted to build an identity for Timken, to create a team spirit where it had been lacking. We wanted the students to identify with the space,” said Rodney Meadows of Mottar and Meadows Architects. “The overall result has exceeded our expectations and our original vision. It is what education should look like in the 21st century. It excites the kids to come to school.”
The faculty and students were also thrilled with the outcome. “There was a quiet WOW when the students first arrived after the renovation. There is also a huge difference in their behavior,” commented Principal Kim Redmond of Timken High School. “They are appreciative of the opportunities that this space has created.”
“We believe the new facility is more attractive to the community, creating more appeal for public schools rather than competing schools in the area. Enrollment is up 200 students versus last year, partly due to this new facility.”
